ILA’s biannual 30 Under 30 list highlights young literacy champions around the world and celebrates their efforts to promote literacy and foster a love of reading. A common theme among the stories of several of the 2019 honorees announced in January is their commitment to equity in literacy education and access to high-quality resources.
To continue sharing the stories of our 30 Under 30 honorees and to give them a platform to share their knowledge and expertise, we’re embarking on our first #ILAslowchat on Twitter, which will take place from February 11 through March 8.
Slow chats are a little different from the normal Twitter chat format. In a typical Twitter chat, like our monthly #ILAchat, guest experts are live for a set amount of time to answer questions and engage with attendees in real time. A slow chat, on the other hand, takes place over a longer period of time, allowing participants to answer questions at their own speed.
The theme for our inaugural #ILAslowchat is Exploring Access & Equity With Our 2019 ILA 30 Under 30 Honorees. Each week for the next four weeks, we will focus on a specific topic with questions crafted by our 30 Under 30 cofacilitators. To participate, follow the #ILAslowchat hashtag each week, read the questions and their responses, and reply with your own thoughts. Be sure to include #ILAslowchat in all your tweets so that other participants can see your responses.
Here’s our schedule and topics for the upcoming weeks:
February 11–15: Access to Literacy in Resource-Limited Settings
Facilitators
February 18–22: Literacy as an Issue of Social Justice
Facilitators
February 25–March 1: Literacy’s Role in Fostering Students’ Identities
Facilitators
March 4–8: Impacting Equity & Access Through Family & Community Involvement
Facilitators
We hope you will join our discussions in the upcoming weeks as we explore these topics and get to know our recent 30 Under 30 honorees.
