ILA National Recognition Symposium

Thursday, October 15, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

National Recognition by the International Literacy Association continues to be the gold standard of literacy education program excellence and is awarded only by ILA. ILA currently nationally recognizes reading/literacy specialist programs (advanced licensure) and elementary education programs (initial licensure).

The purpose of this free preconference symposium is threefold: (1) to collaborate with literacy education colleagues about innovative ways to improve literacy educator preparation programs aligned to ILA's Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals 2017, (2) to learn how to apply for ILA National Recognition and to prepare the self-study, and (3) to learn how to apply for ILA National Recognition With Distinction and to prepare for the site visit.

If you are interested in applying for ILA National Recognition or in becoming a peer reviewer, we encourage you to attend.

Learn more about ILA National Recognition for reading/literacy specialist programs.

Please keep this registration information in mind:

  • The symposium is free, but participants will need a registration badge to enter, so registration through the ILA 2020 Conference website is required.
  • Participants can register for the symposium without registering for the Core Conference.
  • If you have not purchased Core Conference registration and would like to visit the Exhibit Hall after the symposium, you'll need to buy an Exhibit Hall-Only badge for $25, which will include a ticket to the Welcome Event.
