What's Inside
The Common Core State Standards have renewed educators' interest in text-dependent questions answered through close reading of a complex and worthy text. These require students to think deeper about a text and cite evidence from the text.
Learn how to develop text-dependent questions that help students demonstrate knowledge of key details; author's purpose; vocabulary and text structure; and inferences, opinions, arguments, and intertextual connections. You'll see how text-dependent questions, although not required for every type of reading, can guide students' thinking and build habits that they can apply widely.
