What's Inside
This information-packed column defines the CCSS, identifies how they were developed, and demonstrates how they can be implemented to support intentional, rigorous instruction across the grades. You'll read a number of classroom scenarios that illustrate how teachers address selected standards by modeling how to interpret conceptual knowledge, language, text structures, and reading/thinking strategies, and by scaffolding a close reading of texts to support inquiry. These scenarios demonstrate that the CCSS are very compatible with rigorous, intentional instruction and multimodal learning. They also point to the many ways you can teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening within and across the disciplines.
