This four-week literature-based interdisciplinary unit is designed to build conceptual awareness of the importance of making connections to self, family, and others in the world surrounding us. Self-selected fiction and informational texts focus on diversity, tolerance, and awareness of similarities and differences. Young learners are exposed to multiple delivery methods that reinforce movement, song, inquiry, exploration, and self-validation. The materials presented in this unit support cultural equality; the text set includes a variety of diverse perspectives.
