What's Inside
Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction provides a framework for studying the Civil War while promoting reading motivation. Students work collaboratively to build their knowledge of the causes of the Civil War, the strategies behind the battles, and the complications of reconstruction. The unit includes detailed guidance for teachers who want to foster engagement in the classroom, as well as lesson plans for a culminating project, and suggestions for assessment. Adaptations for struggling readers and advanced readers are recommended, and all lessons are aligned with Common Core State Standards.
