Sue Corbin
2022–2025

Sue Corbin chairs the Division of Professional Education at Notre Dame College in Ohio where she is a full professor of literacy education.  The graduate and undergraduate literacy programs at the college have both been successful in achieving ILA National Recognition under her leadership

As an ILA member for more than 30 years, Sue has been a regular participant, facilitator, and presenter for state, national, and international ILA conferences. She has served as a board member and chair of the Children’s Literature and Reading Special Interest Group and has been a member of the editorial board of the group’s journal, The Dragon Lode. She has also served as a member and chair of the group’s committee on Notable Books for a Global Society. Her publications include articles in the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy,  The Reading Teacher, Language Arts, The Ohio Reading Teacher, The Dragon Lode, Ohio Voices, The ALAN Review, and Children's Literature and Education, among others.  

Most of Sue’s adult life has been dedicated to the literacy profession. She has taught as a pre-K–grade 6 literacy specialist, a middle school reading teacher, an adult education reading tutor, and a professor of literacy education at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Kent State University, Cleveland State University, Malone University, and Notre Dame College in Ohio.  As a board member of the Ohio Association of Teacher Education, Sue is a member of the Advocacy Committee where she works alongside other thought leaders in Ohio to lobby against state mandates that limit the academic freedom of K-20 educators.  Her research interests include the role of literature in literacy and content curricula, and the impact of new teachers on P-12 students' literacy learning.
