Zoi Traga Philippakos is an associate professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Her research interests include reading and writing instruction, strategy instruction and self-regulation, and teachers’ professional development. A former elementary school teacher, Philippakos provides professional development to teachers and presents research nationally and internationally on effective reading and writing strategies. She has coauthored several books on reading and writing, including Developing Strategic Writers Through Genre Instruction: Resources for Grades 3–5, Developing Strategic Young Writers Through Genre Instruction: Resources for Grades K–2, and Effective Read-Alouds for Early Literacy: A Teacher’s Guide for PreK–1, and she is a coeditor of Writing and Reading Connections: Bridging Research and Practice and Design-Based Research in Education: Theory and Applications, all published with Guilford Press.
In addition, Philippakos has been actively involved in the Literacy Research Association (LRA) and ILA for several years. She has codeveloped and organized the Writing Research Study Group at LRA since 2010 as well as served as a proposal reviewer and area chair and committee member. For ILA, she coauthored the Teaching Writing to Improve Reading Skills research advisory and has been serving as a reviewer for the ILA National Recognition program.
