ILA OPPORTUNITIES

Children's Rights to Read

We are in search of content for an ILA 2019 General Session video about our Children's Rights to Read initiative.

We're looking for footage of children of all ages, from all over the world, who speak multiple languages, reading the "kid version" of the ten rights.

This video will be shown not only at the ILA 2019 General Session but also during Children's Literature Day. It will be archived on our YouTube channel and shared widely on social media as well. Additionally, chapters and affiliates will be able to request the final video to share at their own events.

Please use the following items as you create your video:

Please submit all footage by Wednesday, September 4 to allow ample time for editing.

Additionally, we're looking for high-resolution photos of classrooms around the world for another video that will be shown during the ILA 2019 General Session. Please submit these pictures by September 4 as well.

CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT

Missouri Literacy Association
Every year, Harris-Stowe University sponsors a BTAP (Beginning Teacher Assistance Program) for beginning teachers in St. Louis public schools. This year, Missouri Literacy Association and Ready to Learn St. Louis worked together to offer local organizations an opportunity to discover new ways to get books into the hands of children who don’t have easy access to them. The various organizations distributed over a quarter of a million books into the homes of Title I students. The bulk of the books was provided by the Ready to Learn St. Louis organization. In addition, Dr. Walls (MLA member) sponsors an annual event where various members of the literacy community come in and read to the children in the Harris-Stowe preschool.
