Create a Culture of Literacy at ILA 2019!

ILA Equity Scholarship

ILA's mission is to empower educators, inspire students, and encourage leaders with the resources they need to make literacy accessible for all, which is why we are offering the ILA Equity Scholarship.

This scholarship will help remove financial barriers to attending the ILA conference. Recipients will receive free Core Conference registration to ILA 2019 (Friday, October 11–Saturday, October 12) plus a reimbursement stipend for related expenses. As a way to give back to the greater New Orleans community, this scholarship will be open only to educators who live within a 100-mile radius of the convention center.

Our focus on equity means we will prioritize applicants who work with underserved communities. Our commitment to equity includes attracting and engaging a diverse, inclusive, and representative group of scholars at ILA 2019.

Who Should Apply

Educators who live within a 100-mile radius of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center who

  • Would not be able to attend otherwise
  • Have not attended an ILA conference in the last three years
  • Have at least three years of experience working in their communities

Applicants must agree to take what they learn at the conference back to their communities so that their colleagues benefit from their experience as well. Scholarship recipients are expected to

  • Use social media and the #ILA19 hashtag before, during, and after the conference to share their learning with others
  • Host a post-conference community forum to share new tools and resources gained at ILA 2019 (e.g., a professional development session, webinar, lunch-and-learn)
  • Write a Literacy Daily blog post or pitch a Literacy Today story that highlights their conference experience or learning
