Bernadette Dwyer has worked in education for over 38 years as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, teacher educator, researcher, and author. Currently, she lectures in literacy studies at the Institute of Education, Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland.

In 2016, Bernadette received a DCU President's Award for her work on the Chekhov e-book Lit4life Project, a joint Microsoft, UNESCO, Mediacraft, and DCU partnership that harnesses the power of technology to address low levels of literacy in global south countries.

A past president of the Literacy Association of Ireland, Bernadette also served on the ILA Board of Directors from 2013 to 2016; as editor of the Global Literacy column for The Reading Teacher; and as an ad hoc reviewer for Reading Research Quarterly.

Bernadette is the 2017 recipient of the ILA TILE-SIG Technology in Reading Research Award. Her current research focuses on digital, multimodal, and disciplinary literacies.
