There's no question that technology is engaging for students, particularly when classroom technology includes 1:1 devices; yet young students often view iPads as something to play on rather than as a tool to be used in conjunction with instruction and learning. Toppel discusses engaging apps that move beyond game-like drill and practice and that challenge students to produce original projects demonstrating their skills and content understanding. Through classroom vignettes and discussion of how particular apps can be used to improve motivation and student accountability, readers will gain an understanding of how iPads can be used to enhance instruction.
